In the UK the term ‘Music Therapist’ is a protected professional title. I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) who regulate the training and practice of Music Therapists, as well as a whole host of allied health professions, ensuring good practice, professionalism, and most importantly, the protection of the public. You will find me on the HCPC register, which can be searched on their website (search under ‘arts therapist’).
I am also a member of the British Association of Music Therapists (BAMT).
As a member of SoundSense I have signed up to the code of practice which has been developed for community musicians. This means that I strive at all times in my work to:
- be well prepared and organised
- be safe and responsible
- prepare for and reflect on my work
- have appropriate musical skills
- work well with people
- be committed to my own professional development
You can download a full copy of the code of practice here.
As a responsible practitioner, I have public liability insurance, provided by Hencilla Canworth Ltd, through SoundSense, and professional indemnity provided by Oxygen Insurance. My last DBS check was carried out in December 2015.
