Iffley Care Home, Guideposts Music Therapy Service :: December 2014 – June 2016
Ran the music therapy service in an Oxford-based residential care home, working with people living with dementia and others receiving palliative care. Growing the service from 1 half-day per fortnight to 1 whole day per week.

My final music therapy training placement was in an inpatient mental health setting where I delivered individual music therapy sessions, as well as large group music therapy, small groups, and at ad hoc times/places/people as was needed.
Singing for the Brain :: September 2009 – July 2013
I led Singing for the Brain sessions in four locations around Oxfordshire (Grove, Didcot, Bicester and Banbury). Funded by The Alzheimer’s Society, Singing for the Brain is a singing group for people with memory problems and their carers.
Mabel Prichard School / MMT Training Placement :: January – December 2012
I was fortunate to spend an entire year developing and running a music therapy service in a school for children with special educational needs. Working closely with teaching assistants and the speech and language therapist, I provided individual music therapy sessions, as well as small groups, whole class therapy sessions, and a performance at Christmas. I worked with children with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) and Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
Sound Bites :: October 2009 – April 2012
Sound Bites brought together older people with functional mental health problems from the Fulbrooke Centre, an inpatient facility for assessment and treatment of mental health problems in the over 60s, and from the community. We got together to sing and use our voices and percussion in the Warneford Hospital Chapel which has a wonderfully warm acoustic (and sometimes a warm floor if the heating has been switched on!) This started as an 8-week pilot running in the autumn 2009, and continued with 5 subsequent series’ of 6-8 weeks, the last in spring 2012.
Heathfield House Care Home, Guideposts Music Therapy :: January – March 2012
Working closely with care staff and visiting family members, I facilitated small therapeutic music groups with adults with late stage dementia.
Headway :: May 2010 – March 2012
Facilitated singing and music sessions with Headway day centres for adults with acquired brain injuries.
CNWL Mental Health Trust Arts Therapy Service / MMT Training Placement :: September – December 2011
As part of my Masters in Music Therapy training programme, I interned at a mental health clinic. I worked closely with an experienced music therapist in an ‘apprenticeship’ style placement, participating and co-leading a music therapy group for adults living with psychotic illnesses, and providing individual music therapy sessions to adults with mental health problems.
Singing for Fun, Age UK :: March 2009 – December 2011
I facilitated weekly Singing for Fun groups in Witney, North Leigh, Carterton, Stratton Audley, Banbury and Fritwell, all supported by Age UK. Most of these groups continue to run and you can find more details by contacting Age UK Oxfordshire

Facilitated workshops on singing as a tool for community-building at Fellowship of Reconciliation’s Young Peacemaker Network conference.
Mind :: February – June 2010
A drop-in singing project based at Bicester’s Courtyard Arts Centre, working with adults of working age with mental health problems. Funded by the district council and by Mind.

Delivered training to Christian Peacemaker Teams on use of Music as a Tool of Non-Violence.
Silver Song Clubs :: August 2009
Facilitated four Sing For Your Life ‘Road Show’ events in and around Oxford, in the form of Silver Song Clubs. You can read more about these here.
Leadership Lab :: March – July 2009
A collaborative project between different arts organisations based in the North-West looking at shared learning. My role was to facilitate online discussion and information sharing. I wrote a blog post about this which you can read here.

I taught for a term at Witney’s Stagecoach Theatre Arts School, teaching 6-16 year olds.
Administrator, Fellowship of Reconciliation :: July 2008 – April 2009
In July 2008 I moved to Oxford, and took up the post of Administrator at Fellowship of Reconciliation, England. I remained with them until April 2009, when I left in order to devote more time to my developing singing and health practice.
Project Worker – ICLS Leicester :: December 2007 – July 2008
Worked at St Philip’s Centre for Interfaith Study and Engagement as the project worker for Leicester’s Intercultural Communication and Leadership School (ICLS). This was a community development-style post, getting to know the young people of different faith communities, and organising training and information events.
Teaching Assistant :: September 2007 – December 2007
I worked for a term in a secondary girls’ school, supporting GCSE candidates with learning difficulties and sensory disabilities.
Stitch and Tell :: May – June 2007
Organised and delivered a community arts project linked with Leicester’s Fairtrade shop ‘Just’, including successfully applying for funding. The project was designed to raise people’s awareness of the importance of fairtrade organic cotton for farmers, their families and communities, and the environment. These issues were explored by encouraging people to think about the importance of particular fabrics or garments through practical workshops incorporating different types of textile techniques. Each participant’s work was displayed in an installation at Leicester’s annual Fairtrade Festival and Fashion Show. You can view photos of the outcomes here.
Young Traveller Girls Singing and Drama Project :: March – April 2007
As part of my PGDip in Community Arts Practice, I co-devised, developed and delivered an intensive music and drama project, working with girls aged 8-15 from the local Irish Traveller community, culminating in a performance.
Transcription and Copy-Editing :: April 2004 – August 2006
My summer job while a student was transcription, and copy-editing work for a freelance editor. Included extensive utilisation of the the music notation software ‘Sibelius’.
Silver Song Club, Cheriton :: September 2005 – May 2006
Co-facilitated singing sessions at a day centre for older adults as a placement for BMus module ‘Music, Arts and Health’.
Youth Facilitator :: February 2006
Youth participation weekend residential, working with Arts Council North West, National Youth Agency, the drama duo Box of Frogs plus a group of talented young artists and performers from the North West region. My role included facilitating both small groups and large groups
